Fees and Rebates

Standard session fee

Sessions are $220 for 50 minutes. This applies to individual therapy. Couples therapy is $250 per session.

Medicare — Better Access to Mental Health Care

If you have a referral from your GP and a Mental Health Care Plan, you can claim a Medicare rebate for your psychology sessions.

The current Medicare rebate for a registered psychologist is $101.55 per session (MBS Item 80110, as at 1 July 2026 — rebate amounts are reviewed annually by the Australian Government and may change).

This means your out-of-pocket cost per session is approximately $118.45.

Under the Better Access initiative, you can access up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year (January to December). Your GP's initial referral covers the first 6 sessions. After your 6th session, you return to your GP for a review. If they agree you would benefit from further sessions, they refer you for up to 4 more — giving you a total of 10 for the year.

At the start of each new calendar year, the count resets and you can access a new set of 10 sessions.

How payment works at sessions

You pay the full $220 at the time of your session. I can process your Medicare claim on your behalf at the practice using a Medicare terminal — your rebate of $101.55 will be credited directly to your bank account, usually within 1 to 2 business days. You can also claim yourself through the Medicare app or myGov.

How to get a Mental Health Care Plan

See the full instructions on the What to Expect page. In brief: book an appointment with your GP, ask for a longer appointment (20 to 30 minutes), and let them know you would like a Mental Health Care Plan and a referral to a psychologist. Once you have it, book your session with me.

NDIS

I work with NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed. Sessions are $252.99. Depending on your plan and the funding categories it includes, your NDIS funding may cover part or all of this cost.

Agency-managed NDIS participants: I am not currently registered as an NDIS provider, which means I cannot provide services to agency-managed participants. Please check your plan type with your plan manager if you are unsure.

To book as an NDIS participant, please contact me before your first session so we can confirm your funding arrangements.

DVA — Department of Veterans' Affairs

I am an approved DVA provider. Veterans with a current DVA Gold Card, or a DVA White Card where mental health has been accepted as a condition, can access services at no out-of-pocket cost.

To access DVA-funded psychology services, you need a referral from your GP. Your GP can arrange this. Once you have the referral, contact me to book.

Couples therapy

Couples therapy sessions are $250 per session. Couples therapy is not covered by Medicare's Better Access initiative — this is a Medicare rule that applies nationwide, not a choice specific to this practice. Private health insurance occasionally covers relationship counselling; check your own policy.

Private fee

If you are paying privately without Medicare, NDIS, or DVA, the fee is $220 per session. Private health insurance does not typically cover psychology sessions in Australia unless you hold a policy with an 'extras' or 'ancillary' component that specifically includes psychology. Check your policy if you are unsure.

Cancellation policy

Please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice, or non-attendance without notice, may incur a fee of $220. This helps me offer cancelled time to clients on the waiting list.

If you are unwell on the day of your appointment, please contact me as soon as possible — we can often switch to a telehealth session instead of cancelling.

Fees are reviewed periodically. If you have a question about costs before booking, please call 0468 310 853 or email admin@ftpc.com.au.
